Scottish PEN is the Scottish branch of PEN International – campaigning for freedom of expression on behalf of oppressed writers and marginalised linguistic groups. Their members include leading Scottish literary figures, from best-selling novelists to award-winning poets, biographers, historians and critics.
We were delighted to be approached by their marketing team in pursuit of a new visual identity. The logo represents the concept of literature + freedom by a simple symbol of a book with pages shaped as (free-as-a) bird.
By creating a set of associated illustrations to be used alongside the logo, their communication has become more unified and noticeable across multiple forms of communication, working well in a digital format as well as within printed materials.
